The Potter County Planning Commission works to protect the health, safety, and welfare of residents by providing leadership in the management of growth and change throughout the County. The Commission strives to balance preserving the unique character and value of Potter County with responsible development that supports the local economy, environment, and community. Guided by a commitment to being helpful, reliable, accessible, and responsive, the Planning Commission collaborates with partners and the public to address land use issues and provide clear, accurate land use information for those who live in and visit Potter County.

Strategic Plan
This is an effort to define our goals, objectives, and strategies to achieve these goals. It helps the planning commission to determine where we want to go, how we will get there, and what resources it takes to achieve our objectives. Overall, this strategic plan is a critical tool for our organization to achieve its goals and objectives. It provides a roadmap for success and ensures that the organization stays focused on its mission and vision.

Land Use Planning

On March 14th 2023 The Potter County Planning Commissions heard a presentation on the use of zoning at a county level . This topic has been borough to our attention by many concerned citizens of the county of mixed land use issues and the rapid growth of conflicting land uses.

Light Pollution

We have to work together to preserve the darkest night skies of Pennsylvania! Potter County boasts the darkest skies of Pennsylvania. This is showcased at our internationally recognized Cherry Springs State Park. People come from all over the world to experience the nights sky in a way they have never seen before.

Municipal Resource Booklet

The Potter County Planning Commission partnered with the Conservation district to create the Municipal Resource Booklet. This Document provided guidance to Municipal officials and other County agency's of the roles and responsibilities each governmental agency has in Potter County

Bridge Grant Application


Pa. Act 13, the shale gas impact fee legislation, provides the Potter County Commissioners $40,000 annually in restricted-use funds to assist local municipalities for repairing or replacing bridges.  In order to distribute it fairly and equally, the Board of Commissioners decided that municipalities should submit an application, which will be reviewed by a committee consisting of the three Commissioners and representatives of Municipal Governments of Potter County.  Specific criteria have been established to evaluate each application.
